Residential heat pumps - Software for managing the refrigerant circuit and indoor environment
Residential heat pumps Software for managing the refrigerant circuit and indoor environment
As world champions in the sport of motor racing often stress, it’s not just about having the best car, rather the driver and his or her ability to feel the car and get the maximum performance out of it are just as important. When the conditions get tough, all else being equal, the driver makes the difference.
In the same way, to get the highest performance from a heat pump not only requires the right components and therefore a good unit, but also excellent software, which “drives” the components so as to optimise their interaction.
Those who choose CAREL can count on a complete solution: the physical components that make up the unit, and advanced software for optimised refrigerant circuit management.
The solution includes A3 ready and ATEX-certified products, all designed to ensure safety and make certification much faster. These include electronic controllers, inverters, DC compressors, electronic expansion valves with stators, and sensors and displays.
The new “DC Residential HP” software, developed in the STone environment, manages the refrigerant circuit and is optimised for residential heat pumps fitted with high-efficiency components. To simplify the work of the manufacturer, the proposed solution is modular, meaning it can be used with outdoor units (ODU), indoor units (IDU) and all-in-one units. The software has been designed to ensure the highest reliability, high efficiency, ease of use and rapid customisation, allowing manufacturers to incorporate their own logic or adapt the software to other types of units.
The most important features include:
-
Logic for maximising COP, such as defrost control and management, optimised DC compressor operation at low load, and intelligent filling of the domestic hot water storage tank;
-
Fast, guided service via messages with useful information for initial analysis;
-
Revised alarm mapping with tolerances when some sensors are malfunctioning, thus avoiding shutting down the unit;
-
Software quality and reliability validated by: automated testing, laboratory testing and virtual simulation environment;
-
Flexibility and ease of use with ready-to-use CAREL libraries for fast customisation;
-
Recording of unit events and statistics to recreate an operating log;
-
Smart grid ready (SG ready) logic.
The software can also manage the rooms inside the home:
-
Management of up to three zone valves and therefore three different rooms;
-
Smart room thermostat management;
-
Temperature control based on a climate curve.
As mentioned previously, the software was developed using the new STone programming environment, taking full advantage of its potential and the associated tools. One example is APPLICA Mobile, which ensures faster operations during installation, maintenance and configuration.
